WHO CAN APPLY

The Scottish Welfare Awards Network can help:

  • Children suffering from mental, physical or sensory disabilities.
  • Children suffering from behavioural and psychological disorders, including those in the care of voluntary societies or homes.
  • Children deprived of normal lives because of family circumstances.
  • Children living in areas of deprivation or stress, who are deprived of amenities general available to other children of a similar age group.
  • Children who are carers in the home.

You can make an application form to help with:

  • Clothes, toys, day trips or holidays within the UK. The specific purpose (e.g. winter jacket/jigsaw/school trip) must be given together with an estimated cost of the item requested.
  • Items that will further a particular skill, talent or interest and will enhance the quality of life of the child's life or future will be given priority (e.g. musical instruments/sports equipment/arts & crafts materials/continuing existing tuition).

There are special cases in which SWAN can provide help for more expensive items, in which a contribution from SWAN towards the cost is sought. Details of other sources of funding (e.g. other charities, social work funds etc.) need to be supplied for the application to be considered. This would require the applicant to contact the Renfield Centre Children's Fund.

SWAN funds do not generally accept applications for white good items (e.g. washing machine, cooker etc.) or specialist equipment (e.g. wheelchairs etc.). However, application for these items can be made to the Frank Buttle Trust.

The SWAN funds will not consider applications for:

  • Travel outside of the UK. Travel abroad.
  • Medical treatment.
  • General household furnishing and repairs.
  • Payments of debts or to relieve a statutory body of its duties and responsibilities.
  • Items already purchased.

If you have any questions or queries about the application form please consult the FAQ section or contact the Renfield Centre Children's Fund.

Please note that conditions may vary from fund to fund.
